My friend has Hotmail he said he got an email from an "official" MSN looking email stating that he needs to ?

send them his user name, password, his question and the answer as well as what state or territory he lives in within 24 hours or they will cut his service. I told him it wasn't a real email, but he thinks it is because they changed they format to MSN Hotmail. Has anyone else gotten this email and how can he forward it to the people at Hotmail so they know someone is up to no good?

Thanks

It's fake.
Reply:try typing in the email address of the "official" MSN people. First instinct, yes, I would have said it is a scam. Sometimes in your web browser there will be a little lock and that means it is safe. But I'm not sure. If the email doesn't come up registered to MSN when you type it in **call the help line. Call the help line of MSN to find out if they did change the format. That way you can guarantee that it is legitimate. I think that is your best bet. TELL HIM NOT TO SEND AN EMAIL UNTIL HE KNOWS FOR A FACT THAT IT WAS REALLY FROM MSN.
Reply:It's probably fake. If there's a link on there, don't click it, but use the official link for hotmail, which is hotmail.com. Yeah. They basically never ask for infomation over the net, espcially if it's official. If they need you to update something, you can do it from your options or other part of your account and not from email.
Reply:It is a SCAM. He needs to log in and go to Help Central and report this. OR---if he doesn't believe you---have him type in "hotmail scam" and see that there are MILLIONS of people saying that they got this email. If he types in his info, he can kiss his account goodbye. AND--not only that-------the scammers will have all the addresses of his friends. PLUS--they can find out other things and steal his identity.
Reply:it's fake people send out these emails and they can hake your computer and in there they mess it up so bad it will freeze up his computer if it was real MSN then they already have his email and password your friend sounds stupid he will get taken all through his life if they asked for a credit card number would he give that to...they can Sign into his computer under his name and get on bad websites and all.
Reply:Anyone can make it look official. Just copy the logos, format etc. of an official MSN email into a new email and write whatever you want and you have one good looking fake.
Reply:Many of these emails go round, often originating from different people. Remember: Microsoft will never NEED your password - they own the system and could easily access whatever data is already in record about them.
Reply:no i have not gotten that email so yea its a fake

Reply:Don't do it, it's a spam. I got one very alike, I didn't do it and I still have my hotmail working perfectly!
Reply:100% fake spam junk email, tell your "friend" to not be so nieve and gullable
Reply:Lol i have hotmail and I didn't get that message.

Reply:Fake. Like "what is your bank account number" fake.
